Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy applies to every person who visits brunavo.digital, the website of Brunavo Reputation Advisory (Pty) Ltd ((Pty) Ltd), trading as Brunavo, a service providing reputation management in artificial intelligence outputs and in the media. It takes effect on 1 January 2026 and applies to all visits made on or after that date. It must be read together with the Privacy Policy published on this website, which explains how personal information is processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Effective date: 1 January 2026
1. Purpose and Scope of this Policy
1.1 This Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are, which of them Brunavo places on the device of a visitor, the purpose of each category, the period for which each remains on the device, and the means by which a visitor may accept, refuse or withdraw consent.
1.2 A cookie is a small text file stored on a browser or device when a website is visited. Similar technologies, including local storage and pixels, function in comparable ways and are included in the word "cookies" in this Policy.
1.3 Where a cookie contains or is linked to information that identifies a visitor, that information is personal information under POPIA, and Brunavo Reputation Advisory (Pty) Ltd processes it as the responsible party.
2. Categories of Cookies Used
2.1 The website arranges cookies into three consent categories: necessary, analytics and marketing. Only the necessary category is active before a visitor makes a choice.
Necessary cookies
2.2 Necessary cookies enable the operation of the website and cannot be switched off in the consent banner. They record the visitor's consent choices, maintain session integrity, protect the contact form and the email subscription form against automated abuse and forged submissions, and balance server load. No consent is required for these cookies because the website cannot function securely without them.
Analytics cookies
2.3 Analytics cookies are placed only after the visitor consents. They measure how many visitors use the website, which pages (for example the pages describing AI reputation monitoring and media reputation services) are viewed, how visitors arrive, and where they leave. The information is used in aggregated form to improve the content and performance of the website.
Marketing cookies
2.4 Marketing cookies are placed only after the visitor consents. They measure the effectiveness of Brunavo campaigns, recognise whether a visitor has previously subscribed to the Brunavo email newsletter, and may be used to present relevant information about Brunavo services on other platforms.
3. Cookies and the Website's Two Data Collection Flows
3.1 Contact form. When a visitor submits an enquiry through the contact form, the name, email address, telephone number (if provided) and message are transmitted to Brunavo Reputation Advisory (Pty) Ltd to respond to the enquiry. Necessary cookies protect that submission. Analytics and marketing cookies are not required to use the form, and refusing them does not affect the handling of an enquiry.
3.2 Email subscription. When a visitor subscribes to the Brunavo email updates, the email address, and any name supplied, is recorded to deliver the newsletter. Necessary cookies protect the subscription request. Where the visitor has consented to marketing cookies, the website may also record whether subscription communications are opened or whether links within them are followed. Every message contains an unsubscribe link.
3.3 Cookie data is not combined with contact form or subscription data to build an individual profile unless the visitor has consented to marketing cookies and the combination is described in the Privacy Policy.
4. Lawful Basis and Consent
4.1 Necessary cookies are used on the basis that processing is necessary to pursue the legitimate interests of Brunavo Reputation Advisory (Pty) Ltd in operating a secure website, as contemplated by section 11(1)(f) of POPIA.
4.2 Analytics and marketing cookies are used only on the basis of the visitor's voluntary, specific and informed consent under section 11(1)(a) of POPIA. Direct electronic marketing is further governed by section 69 of POPIA, and no marketing communication is sent to a subscriber who has not opted in or who has withdrawn consent.
4.3 Consent is requested through a banner on first visit. A visitor may accept all categories, refuse optional categories, or select categories individually. Continuing to browse without making a choice is not treated as consent to analytics or marketing cookies.
5. Duration of Cookies
| Category | Purpose | Typical retention period |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary: session | Session integrity and form security | Until the browser is closed |
| Necessary: consent record | Stores the visitor's cookie choices | Up to 12 months |
| Analytics | Aggregated visit statistics | Up to 13 months |
| Marketing | Campaign measurement and subscriber recognition | Up to 12 months |
5.1 The periods above are maximums. A visitor may delete cookies at any time through browser settings, in which case the consent banner will appear again.
6. Third-Party Providers and Cross-Border Transfers
6.1 Analytics and marketing cookies may be set by third-party service providers acting as operators on behalf of Brunavo Reputation Advisory (Pty) Ltd or as independent responsible parties under their own policies. Some providers are located outside South Africa.
6.2 Where personal information is transferred outside South Africa, Brunavo Reputation Advisory (Pty) Ltd relies on the conditions in section 72 of POPIA, including a recipient bound by law, binding agreement or corporate rules providing substantially similar protection, or the visitor's consent.
7. Managing and Withdrawing Consent
7.1 A visitor may change or withdraw consent at any time by reopening the cookie settings on the website, or by clearing cookies in the browser. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
7.2 Most browsers allow cookies to be blocked or deleted. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent the contact form, the email subscription or other functions from operating correctly.
7.3 A subscriber may separately withdraw from email communications by using the unsubscribe link in any message or by writing to [email protected].
8. Rights of Visitors and Complaints
8.1 Under POPIA a visitor may ask Brunavo Reputation Advisory (Pty) Ltd to confirm whether it holds personal information, to access, correct or delete it, and may object to processing. Requests may be sent to [email protected] and will be answered within a reasonable time.
8.2 A visitor who is dissatisfied may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa, at inforegulator.org.za.
9. Changes to this Policy
9.1 Brunavo Reputation Advisory (Pty) Ltd may amend this Policy when the cookies used or the law changes. The amended version will be published at brunavo.digital with a revised effective date, and consent will be requested again where the change materially affects optional categories.
